What we’re Reading and Loving this Weekend

1. Finishing up our book, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, for book club next week. After our holiday gift exchange, we’ve decided to have a gift exchange at each reception, which makes our monthly meetings just that much more fun.

2. Tory Burch’s new pink colorway for lettuce ware. This gorgeous pastel pink dropped just in time for spring – and I am in love with it. An easy way to incorporate it into your existing dinnerware? Pick up a few of the salad plates (to switch out your white salads) and canape plates.

3. What’s on the blog this week. We celebrated Presidents’ Day with a look back on some of our favorite vacation spots and homes frequented by our U.S. presidents. I shared a few things to do when you visit The Greenbrier and an inside peek on the Dorothy Draper Decorating School taking place there next weekend. We talked about how to jump back into your New Year’s Resolutions with these five ways to make getting to the gym easier, and we shared how to get your shoes in top shape with your cobbler. There’s also a post on how to prep your guest room for houseguests this week.

4. Working through Duolingo‘s French lessons for our upcoming trip to France. I’ve always loved learning new languages and, at one point, had French, Spanish, and some spoken Italian down 100-percent. Duolingo is the best way to refresh a language or learn a completely new one – and I’ve had so many friends agree. Definitely check it out the next time you’re about to head overseas or just want to brush up on that high school German.

5. Shopping the Tuckernuck sample sale. You guys probably saw my Instagram Stories where I talked about Tuckernuck’s sample sale that’s going on now through Sunday. It is definitely worth stopping by. Everything now is under $100.00 and you can score some terrific finds. I went to the Preview Night and snagged a bunch of goodies, including a few vintage Lilly Pulitzer dresses for $50.00 each and the earrings below for $5.00 per pair. Head over to the The Collection at 5471A Wisconsin Avenue, NW in Friendship Heights today and tomorrow to check it out. Send me a DM on Instagram with what you end up finding or for more info.

6. I had a few questions from you guys on Instagram about where I consigned my clothes. Mint Condition in Old Town Alexandria is by far my go-to consignment shop. They also happen to have a terrific collection to shop from if your closet has a few gaps you need to fill. I am also a big fan of consigning on The RealReal. I’ve had great success there and just shipped off a box of twelve designer pieces. Things sell quickly and, much like Mint Condition, you can either receive a check or store credit. Current Boutique in Arlington (Clarendon) is also a good spot.

And, since we’re nearing the event, I have to plug the Junior League of Washington’s annual Tossed and Found, which I’m also donating a few gently used items to.Β

7. My current needlepoint project is the little door hanger (or coaster) in this post with the penguins. I picked it up at The Point of it All in Friendship Heights a few weeks ago. It’s too fun and, after feeling a bit under the weather this weekend, I’ve gotten pretty far ahead. I’ve also determined that starting with white threads is the way to go. I always seem to pull other colors through if I work on the colors first. Anyone else?!

8. The new Conrad Hotel in Washington, DC opens on March 6th and my friend Courtney got a sneak peek. I mean…an entire wall of the restaurant decorated with Blue Willow pieces? Count me in.

9. I’ve been thinking back on my hubby’s birthday brewery tour that I pulled together a few birthdays ago. I may end up doing a blog post on how to plan and execute one successfully. It was a logistical win since most were in the same area in DC, but certainly not all were walkable.Β

10. I’m getting ready to shoot a super easy Mardi Gras king cake that you can make to help celebrate the upcoming holiday. You will be floored at how simple it is. Stay tuned!
