Classic Blue and White Pairs with Silver to Welcome in the New Year (and the rest of Winter)

“Blue and white” is one of my favorite color combinations to work and decorate with (as y’all can see in this post). It is classic and can be mixed and matched with almost any color. It looks beautiful with holiday reds, so chic with white hydrangea (in this post), and lovely with tulips in fresh spring colors.

I set this tablescape for New Year’s Eve, and one of the reasons why I love it so much is that this table will really last you all winter! The blues and silvers are perfect for extending that wintry feel.

I’m always on the lookout for ginger jars and have collected these from all kinds of places. You can find them in antique shops, Ballard Designs, Williams Sonoma, almost anywhere. I look for ones in varied sizes, shapes, and patterns. This one from Houzz has such an interesting pattern and I love this jar from Juliska, in the classic Country Estate blue and white. I’m also a huge fan of Dana Gibson’s bright, preppy designs, so this blue and white ginger jar is right up my alley. This brushstroke navy and white jar is also an absolute showstopper.

I love these clear glass pillar candle holders. Pillar candles add such a dramatic touch and they were perfect to balance out the large ginger jars. Crate and Barrel and Williams Sonoma have great ones. You can also find these at Home Goods. I always try to buy them in pairs and in small, medium, and large sizes. Once you have a few base pairs to visually anchor the table, you can mix in varied designs and styles.

I mixed in a few silver mercury votive holders to add more light in different vessels. This West Elm set is fabulous for tealights (slightly smaller than votives) and is under $30.

This beautiful silver punch bowl recently came into my life from one of my favorite shops in Annapolis. You can read more about it and find a recipe for a sparkling cranberry New Year’s punch in this recent post.

Our Waterford Lismore diamond flutes add such a sparkle to the table, reflecting off the candlelight. You can find similar ones here and here.

These gorgeous navy lacquer chargers were such a fabulous find on Horchow. They’re an extra 20% off right now, putting them at 12 for under $40. Run, don’t walk. They are great quality, too.

I layered two different sets of Williams Sonoma porcelain plates for this tabletop: the Eclectique dinner plates in white and the Pillivuyt Queen Anne salad plates in white.

Also, y’all, how cute are these Sferra snowflake napkins? I found the ones pictured below at Home Goods, but the Sferra ones are so pretty with the edging that I may have to snag them.

Happy New Year, y’all, and happiest entertaining!
