An Anti-inflammatory, Metabolism-boosting Tea
Earlier this month, my friend Lindsay and I hosted a detox party with a few of our fellow Bible study girls. We all have pretty hectic schedules between work, relationships, and everything else we’re involved in. Spending a Saturday focusing on us, our goals, health, and wellness was a welcome break for us all.
We kicked off our morning with this fabulous detoxifying lemon ginger turmeric tea from Tracy Hensel’s blog. Not only is this tea delicious, it’s packed with all the good stuff: vitamin C from lemon and cayenne, vitamins A/D/E from cayenne, and anti-inflammatory and immune system-boosting benefits from ginger and turmeric. If you’re looking for another tea recipe, try this one that’s a spin on the coffee house favorite.
This detox tea is a warm lemon burst with a hint of heat from the cayenne, a close to coconut milk flavor from the turmeric, and a freshness with the grated ginger. It was a hit!
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate it (per cup of tea):
12 oz boiling water
1 lemon
1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated (peel it first with a veggie peeler, then grate using a box grater or rasp grater)
1/8 tsp ground turmeric
1/8 tsp ground cayenne
2 tsp honey (optional – we eyeballed about 1 1/2 tsp)
Here’s how to make it
Boil your water first. While you’re waiting for it to boil, peel your ginger. Pro tip: It’s much easier to peel the ginger before you slice it into the one-inch piece. Slice off one inch of ginger.
(Wearing Athleta top – similar, Lucy bottoms – similar by Athleta)
Fill your mug with boiling water, leaving about 1 1/2-2 inches from the top to add your lemon juice.
Slice your lemon in half and use a lemon press (like this one) to juice both halves into your mug of boiling water.
Next, grate the fresh ginger and add it to your tea. Then, add the turmeric and cayenne.
Add the honey to taste and enjoy! It’s the perfect way to kick off your morning – and your metabolism. A special thanks to my fabulous friends and models for their help with this post. Cheers!
