We’ve been switching it up between our Keurig and our Nespresso machines for weeks. It only seemed fair that we finally, finally give our French Press a fair shot. The result? Instant addiction.
There’s something so pure and smooth about French Press coffee. You can taste it a bit more and it’s a wonderful little ritual to add to your morning routine.
You can order coffee that’s ground on the spot in most coffee shops. Just make sure you ask the barista to grind it for a French Press as the coarseness of the grounds are different for coffee made this way vs. coffee made with a regular coffee machine.
NOW, on to the good stuff. I was intimidated for years by the French Press, but it’s now one of my favorite ways to enjoy my morning coffee. Here’s how to do it…
Ingredients:
1/2 cup coffee grounds
4 cups of water
How to Make it:
- Add the coffee into the bottom first.
- Bring the water to a boil. We use our tea kettle and it makes this step a breeze.
- Remove the boiling water from the heat and let it sit for one minute. If you add boiling water immediately to your coffee, the result can sometimes be bitter, so this helps to prevent that from happening.
- Pour the water directly onto the grounds and give it a quick stir.
- Gently set the filter/lid contraption on top until it’s comfortably on.
- Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.
- Delicately lower the plunge until you meet resistance (it will hit against the coffee grounds on the bottom). This separates the coffee from the leftover grounds.
- Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy! We prefer ours with toast.

What brand of coffee do you use?
I really like the La Colombe brand: https://www.drinktrade.com/roasters/la-colombe and we’ve been loving some of the flavors from Lakota Coffee (just make sure you select the already-ground coffees): https://www.lakotacoffee.com/
