I just put the St. Patrick’s Day corned beef brisket in the slow cooker for tonight, but I know there’s another deadline I have to meet today: personalization orders for Easter.
The Baskets
You read that right: “baskets.” Plural. In my eyes, you have the big Easter basket. You know the one. It’s the one the Easter bunny hides under the dining room table or in the corner of the living room by the sofa. This one is chock full of all the staples: the chocolate animal, stuffed animals, probably an article of clothing (moms, I know), and likely a bunch of other fun items. Looking for eggs is one thing, but finding this basket is the ultimate.
I go with the classic oversized wicker basket for this one, and Baby Braithwaite is my #1 source. Their personalized ribbons are so perfect and the basket is the perfect size for stuffing all kinds of goodies.
The next kind of Easter basket you need is the one for the hunt. Why do you need two? Because kids go nuts and the last thing you want is your little one slowed down dragging a once-beautiful giant wicker basket behind them as they try to grab plastics eggs before the other kids do – or, worse, abandoning the basket and clutching handfuls of eggs coming at you. I’ve seen both of these scenarios played out and I’m determined not to live through them myself.
Here is the one I ordered. It’s waterproof, personalized, sweet, and practical. The canvas tote reminds me of our trusty LL Bean tote and I think it’s going to be “the one.”
The Fillers
I love finding fun Easter basket fillers. You have to start with Easter grass. It’s a classic, it gets everywhere, but an Easter basket wouldn’t be the same without it.
Next, you need the chocolate bunny or animal. I love the ones by Jacques Torres. They ship well, are beautiful, and taste delicious. They’re our go-to’s. I also love buying Medicis candy from Williams Sonoma, especially their covered almonds.
Here are some of my favorite fillers for Easter baskets, some of which I’m planning on stocking my toddler’s basket with:
- Bunny Bath Bombs
- Minnow Coral Swimming Boardies (I usually size up)
- Olli Ella seashell purse
- Needlepoint baseball cap
- Anything by Ooly (these paint sticks are on sale for under $8)
- Jacques Torres chocolate animals
I’ll also add in a new coloring book or two, some stickers, a lift-the-flap book, and another Tonie or two!
I also can’t go any further without saying that some of the – legit – DC gift shops also offer shipping for those who are out of state or don’t feel like fighting traffic across town. Boy moms, you can buy toy versions of The Beast, Air Force One, and Marine One at the White House gift shop.
You can also purchase a toy metro bus and train on WMATA’s website here.
New Yorkers aren’t left out either. FDNY fire engines and MTA buses are also available at FAO Schwartz and available online. I have my eyes on this FDNY fire engine with lights and sounds.
The Outfits
I stocked up on light blue bobby suits and overalls at Feltman for our son this Easter, so we are covered. I love items that are less holiday-specific and more seasonal colors these days since he’s flying out of sizes.
For little girls, I love, love, love the sweet dresses by Pepa London and La Coqueta. Their pieces for boys are some of our most treasured – and most worn – in our closet.
Happy shopping – and hope everyone enjoys this joyful season!
