Last weekend, we met up with 5,000 other Washingtonians to head to our secret location for this year’s Diner en Blanc, the biggest outdoor dinner party that started in Paris several years back.
Once we finally made our way over, the location was revealed almost instantly: Nationals Park. It was a beautiful setting. The sun was beginning to set as we pulled our tables together and dinner items.
Since we were limited to a small table (there is a size restriction in the tables – this one is similar to ours), we downsized our dinner pieces to bread and butter plates with salad plates as our serving platters. I found that our butcher’s block (which we refinished ourselves in this earlier post) was the perfect size to stage our tabletop before I packed it all up.
In keeping with the theme, I chose a handful of full white hydrangeas for our centerpiece arrangement.
While we were determined to bring our own dinner, it was a long weekend (we’d tailgated the day before), so we let Whole Foods cater. I snagged a box of chicken wings and a few different salads at their hot bar. Oh, and I couldn’t say no to the cookie stand, so we ended up with pistachio, raspberry, and rainbow tiered.
We pulled out some of our cheeses, cured meats, olives, and other charcuterie board items to complete our little meal.
The evening began with a napkin wave and ended with sparklers and a dance party on the field. It was a great time had by all!
