Mixing in the Old with the New
Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to glitz and glam when it comes to decorating your table for a dinner party. Winter’s whites and deep hues lend themselves beautifully to setting a truly special table. For this one, I used rich golds, navy blue, and bright white to create a tabletop that will easily last you all winter long.
As you all know, blue and white is a color palette I absolutely love using because it can be dressed up and down easily. It’s so versatile and works well with lots of different patterns. It was a breeze to find linens in coordinating colors. I mixed my blue and white paisley tablecloth with some blue and white chevron napkins (similar here and here). The silver braided bow napkin rings were another find at HomeGoods, but there are some similar ones on Etsy here and some really fun ones here by Kate Spade that are now on my list to purchase.
I’ve had a few questions on Instagram already about the tablecloth I used in this tablescape. It’s another HomeGoods find from a few years ago. I’ve linked a few similar ones below.
As I always enjoy doing, I mixed a few newer pieces in with some of my old antique finds on this tabletop. We found the gold-rimmed cordial glasses at Evergreen Antiques when my husband and I escaped for a quick day trip over to Annapolis. My gold and white tureen is a gift from my mother who also has a fabulous eye for great pieces.
The navy lacquer chargers from Neiman Marcus (sold out, but similar here, here, and here) are the perfect pop of blue for each table setting. I plated our Williams Sonoma soup plates on top of our dinner plates for a layered look. These are part of our everyday china that I am absolutely in love with. We mixed three of Williams Sonoma’s French porcelain patterns together and I’m so pleased with the way our collection turned out. I should also mention that we’ve had them for three years and only one has chipped (and that was user error – oops!).
Our candlesticks are the “Treviso” candlesticks by Waterford’s bridge line, Marquis by Waterford (I have all three pairs of the various sizes). My taper candles are from Cire Trudon. One of my dearest friends at Gray Antiques gifted me my first set and I’ve been in love with them ever since. The ones in this tabletop are khaki. I linked the taupe candles since I haven’t been able to find the khaki ones again. They look so similar and I just ordered a set of them to replace my khaki ones since they’re almost out.
Happy setting, friends!
