Hint: There’s Never “Too Much” Champagne
It’s almost here! Much like the commercials during the Super Bowl, the red carpet is the highlight of my awards show viewings, and the 2020 Oscars are the pinnacle of the awards shows, so my hopes are high for some fabulous statement pieces.
Sure, you could watch the Academy Awards one way: via Instagram Stories, Twitter feeds, and (oh, right) the actual television. But, hosting a viewing party is a much better option, if you ask me!
First off, you’re going to need some glitz. This can be in the form of a glittering table runner or tablecloth underneath your bites and beverages. Try playing around with toothpicks and swizzle sticks, too.
Get your guests involved by printing off the official 2020 Oscars ballots. I can’t think of a better way to greet your friends than with a glass of champagne and a ballot for them to weigh in on this year’s nominees.
Speaking of, you’re going to need champagne. Go all out and break out the crystal. It is the Oscars after all – even if you all are watching it in yoga pants and lounge wear. If you’d rather keep things low-key on a “school night,” opt for these disposable glittery flutes.
I have to give a tip of the hat to Town and Country magazine for spotting these little Oscars figurines. They would be the perfect party favors and decorations!
You might be wondering what to serve. To that, my answer is to follow in Ellen Degeneres’ footsteps at the Oscars a few years ago. Just be sure to serve it on china – there’s just nothing better than that happy combination!
You’ll probably want to have bites, dips, and the usual grazing board on-hand, too. Here’s what I keep in our fridge for easy entertaining.
If you’re feeling extra creative but don’t have a lot of time on your hands, pick up a roll of Pillsbury sugar cookie dough and a star cookie cutter. Roll out the dough and cut your stars out. Once they’ve baked, ice them with a light royal icing followed by a few shakes of gold sugar sprinkles. Voila!
You can’t go wrong with popcorn either. Serve it up in the classic red-and-white-striped boxes or stay in-theme with these gold bags. If you want to go all out, set out a popcorn bar with different toppings. I love adding Old Bay to mine, or melted butter and flaked sea salt. If I’m being terrible, I’ll pop in some peanut M&M’s instead. Pick up a few of your favorite candies in movie theater boxes to add to your “concession stand.”
These bow tie napkin folds are too adorable not to share. You can find cocktail napkins and luncheon napkins in all sorts of colors at your local party supply store.
Naturally, red roses are oh-so-elegant and pair very well with gold accents. Fill a few bud vases with red roses and scatter them around your entertaining space for a chic Hollywood feel.
Now, it’s time to sit back and prepare your Oscar-worthy look for the night…
Cheers, friends!
