It’s a new series, friends! I’m excited to announce that we’re replacing “Weekend Links” with our “Weekend 10.” Here, I’ll cover my top 10 for the week: things I’m up to, books or shows I’m watching, new finds, thoughts, and more. Now, for our first one:
1. What I’m Watching: FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and The West Wing on Netflix. After hearing from so many people how wild this documentary on Fyre Festival was, I knew I had to watch it. And it was crazy. If you guys haven’t seen it yet on Netflix, make time to watch it this weekend. It’s unreal. We’re also on a West Wing kick. If you’re looking for a fun Washington binge, this one is it.
2. Planning our trip to France. We’re also planning our trip to France this spring and I cannot wait. We’re going to some places that we’ve already been to and some that are new to both of us, including the Champagne region, which we just finished planning this week. I could go tomorrow!
3. Beginning with British needlepoint. My grandmother sent me a beautiful Elizabeth Kennedy needlepoint kit and I can’t wait to get started on it. It’s going to be different since it’s British needlepoint, so I’m going to be learning how to needlepoint a new way!
4. The headband that’s on my list. I am in love with this headband. It’s pink, velvet, and studded with pearls. To make it even better, it’s very reminiscent of Duchess Kate’s hat-bands, which are having a moment right now.
5. Hearing from Emily Evans Eerdmans at Hillwood Estate, Museum, & Gardens. Hillwood always hosts the most interesting lecturers. As a part of their Great Homes and Gardens series this spring, they invited Emily Evans Eerdmans, of Eerdmans Fine Art, to speak on Henri Samuel. Samuel is a designer I’d heard of, but wasn’t that familiar with. I fell in love with French interiors long ago, especially after hearing from Timothy Corrigan at Hillwood last spring. Hearing Eerdmans’ stories about Samuel’s French interiors and his life was incredible. She talked about his beautiful style and the homes that he decorated for some of the most historic families in America and Europe. I love how she let us into Henri’s life and walked us through some of his most notable designs. You can pick up her book on Samuel here.
Emily Evans Eerdmans was also a good friend of designer Mario Buatta and has written a book on his designs – as well as a piece on his last project, which was featured in Architectural Digest’s February 2019 issue. Her book on Buatta is also on my list to read.
6. Post coming soon on meal planning. Meal planning has become one of my favorite time hacks. Our weeks are crazy between work, blogging, and traveling, so this has been a big time-saver for us. More on that coming up!
7. Martha Stewart’s story on the Skimm’d from the Couch podcast. This week, I listened to this podcast’s interview on Martha Stewart and learned so much about her life. I had no idea she started off as a model, worked for a time as a stockbroker, and, from there, took multiple chances that landed her where she is now. It’s a remarkable story and the ladies of The Skimm do a great job of sharing it. It’s definitely worth a listen.
8. You won’t want to miss this Sarah Flint sale. It’s Presidents’ Day weekend, which means all the sales are happening. You definitely don’t want to miss the one that Sarah Flint is having. It happens twice a year and there are some fabulous finds that are heavily discounted. You can shop them here.
9. What I’m reading: Pender and Peony’s Guide to Chinoiserie. You guys know I love chinoiserie, especially if it’s blue and white. Pender and Peony has a terrific guide on her blog where she breaks down different ways of decorating in the style, distinguishes between patterns, and more. She also talks about how to know when something is authentic.
10. To the outlets! Of course, Presidents’ Day weekend means a jaunt to our nearby outlets (and there are plenty) is in order. I stock up on basics whenever I can and the Kate Spade Outlet is always one of my favorite stops for their clothes. I practically live in Kate Spade dresses.
Happy weekending, friends!
